Things to Do in Sarasota This Summer

Sarasota is a friendly, welcoming city with many things to see and do during the summer months. If you’re looking for a great city to relocate to, spend the summer season, or visit for a long weekend, Sarasota should be at the top of your list.

There are several Sarasota events each season, as well as a number of mainstays, from museums to zoos, to historic and natural attractions.

The Sarasota real estate market offers incomparable variety, whether you’re looking for a multi-bedroom home, low-maintenance condominium, or vacation rental for a short-term stay.

However long you plan to spend in Sarasota, you’ll want to check out some of these fun, family-friendly Sarasota events, activities, and attractions this summer.

Big Cat Habitat

7101 Palmer Blvd., Sarasota, FL

If you’re looking to get a little wild while staying in Sarasota, look no further. The Sarasota Big Cat Sanctuary allows kids to get up close personal with some of the most powerful predators in the world.

Watch jaguars, panthers, lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) as they prowl around the sanctuary. Both educational and lots of fun, a visit to the Big Cat Habitat will teach kids about animal issues, habitat protection, and respect.

Kids’ Summer Beach Runs

948 Beach Rd., Siesta Key, FL

With both fun and fitness in mind, the Kids’ Summer Beach runs are a great goal for anyone under 18. Every Tuesday evening from June 5 to August 7, kids ages 1 to 17 can race each other down the Siesta Beach for this one-mile fun run on the Key.

All will receive a participation ribbon and a popsicle. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m., and the race at 6:30 p.m. Run four times this summer and receive a free T-shirt, as well as other prizes.

Urfer Family Park

4000 Honore Ave., Sarasota, FL

If you’re looking to spend some warm, sunny afternoons outdoors, head to the Urfer Family Park for a picnic. Here, you’ll never run out of things to do. The park is home to playgrounds, a fitness trail, and a mile-long nature trail through forested wetlands and flatwoods pines. This is one of the biggest free parks in the city. The park is also dog-friendly (leashes and poop-and-scoop apply) and available for family reunions, group picnics, and other events.

The Summer Circus Spectacular

5555 North Tamiami Tr., Sarasota, FL

Go to the greatest show on earth in the city where circus magnates the Ringling Bros. lived. The Summer Circus Spectacular runs from June 12 to July 28, at the Historic Asolo Theater in Sarasota.

Shows run nearly every day, with late morning, matinee, and evening performances. The cost is $16 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under. For more information and tickets, contact the circus at 941-360-7399.
